Angel Du$t, the “new” kids in town. At least, to this exact sub-genre. This is what happens when members from Trapped Under Ice, Turnstile and Diamond Youth get together and decide to start a poppy, punk band. Not a pop-punk band, but a really poppy-sounding punk rock band. We got to know the band when their Xtra Raw record came out last year, and A.D. is the name of their debut album, out today!
The intro of the record has you thinking you are about to listen to some old-school, goofy punk record. Well, you are not that far off! The album opens with ‘Smash You Up’, a fast punk song, with punk rock vocals. But then ‘Let It Rot’ follows, which throws you off completely. It is an angry and fast-starting song and then it completely turns into a song that has me fooled for some pop song that I would hear on my local radio channel. All with all it is quite a refreshing take on the whole punk rock vs. pop-punk thing as these guys mix it up into a complete blend of the two genres.
Songs that stand out in my opinion are the single release ‘Stepping Stone’ (check out the video below) and ‘Set Me Up’, a song with some interesting things going with the vocals.
In total it is a 12-track album with only one song over 2-minutes; the way I like it. The songs are quick and stay interesting throughout as you never really know what they are going to do next. The songs keep changing by the second.
The album give the impression as if it was made with a lot of fun and joy from the band. I can’t wait to see a live show of these guys during their European run with Turnstile. It is bound to be something special. A.D. is out on June 10th through React! and Reaper Records.
