Album of The Month

Album of the Month: La Dispute – Wildlife

Wildlife

Only one album this month is as convincing as La Dispute‘s new album Wildlife. To be honest, I only got to know the band a few months back when I saw them play in support of Touché Amoré. As strong as their live act is, the new record strikes just as hard.

The emotional hardcore La Dispute presents, is of strong personal value to me, as it has so much similarities with MewithoutYou’s A to B: Life. This is the very first band I ever saw live as an 12 year old rascal. It’s the band that introduced me to, then called and well respected, emocore. A form of hardcore that was know for it’s emotional lyrics and way of singing, not for it’s skinny jeans or cutting wrists.

La Dispute brings back that 11-year-old boy in me, but also takes me on a thorough journey that displays today’s problems and frustrations. Choices, changes and solitude are part of the stories told and singer Jordan Dreyer presents them with carefully chosen words.

Going through the album you will find out that the guys in La Dispute have finally become more comfortable with their own sound. Where they were slightly experimenting in their previous releases, there is now certain clarity. No more out of order songs for the band, but a very clean album with songs that bring out a vibe that we all know them so well for. Wildlife has become a very pure La Dispute work.

One of my personal highlights of the album is definitely ‘A Letter’. The build-up in this song is of incredible beauty and the story told by Jordan Dreyer holds a great amount of emotions and personal feelings. It’s a breathtaking moment on the LP.

La Dispute managed to blow us away with their new album and we can’t wait for them to tour Europe in support of Wildlife. Make sure to get of a hold of this record, because it cannot be missed in your collection. Wildlife is out today via No Sleep Records.
