Disgrace from Southern California dropped their hard hitting debut LP True Enemy on Tuesday, “a furious mix of hardcore and (death/thrash) metal,” as stated in our review. Some of you might already be familiar with the Disgrace, but for those aren’t I caught up with vocalist Taylor Young to have him introduce his band, and he revealed some exciting news… Read on!
Please introduce yourself and your band.
“I’m Taylor Young and I front a hardcore band called Disgrace.”
How did you come up with the band name, Disgrace?
“We liked the idea of having a DIS name like a punk band. It just popped in there.”
Define your sound in three words and elaborate on that.
“Intricate pit riffs. We attempt to do more than is necessary to ignite the fire.”
Your debut LP “True Enemy” will be released via Closed Casket Activities on March 24th. What’s the story behind this release (and can you share some insight of the writing/recording process)?
“Kyle, Mike & Leo started putting it together after the split 7″ with Harness. Once they had 6 songs we recorded the first half of the album, since the songs are so demanding and it was good to just get them down. Then they went back and handled the other 6 songs, followed by recording those. They did rough demos before recording and I would gather vocal ideas and do production magic here & there. Overall it was a fairly organic album.”
Where do you hope this release will get Disgrace?
“We had no goal other than writing an extremely hard record that we could all be proud of. We’re satisfied if anyone enjoys it with us.”
Members of Disgrace also play in Nails, Twitching Tongues and Forced Order. How do you guys combine playing in multiple bands and which place does Disgrace have on the priority list?
“I’ve become not fond of answering this question because no matter how I try, it belittles the band that ends up at the bottom, so I prefer to say we love each band equally and try to make each one have it’s time to shine when it makes the most sense.”
Lastly, when will Disgrace make way to destroy European venues?
“We will be coming to Europe in June. It’ll be our longest tour yet.”
