Album of the Month: Heights – Dead Ends

A new force is rising from British soil. Hailing from Hertfordshire, Heights brings forth an explosive and renewing wave of hardcore. The quintet just released their latest effort Dead Ends through Mediaskare Records.

Track one ‘We Live Alone…’ gives you a good impression of Heights’ spherical and doomy style of hardcore. The short introduction leads you straight to one of the best tracks of the album: ‘Eye For An Eye’. Strong guitar riffs are accompanied by Thomas Debaere‘s convincing vocal skills. It’s a bit of a long run (5:05), especially for a single, but the track proves why Heights is one of the UK’s hottest hardcore mobs.

‘Oceans’ and ‘Letting Go’ show you the characteristics of Heights’ songwriting. As Rock Sound wrote earlier, the boys are no “happy campers”. The lyrics are emotional pieces of art, putting all their grudges on the table. One line to brightness really spoke to me and said: “Let go of everything you used to hold. Dare to regret and dare to live.”

One of my personal favorites is hardcore anthem ‘The Lost And Alone’. Jonathan Vigil of The Ghost Inside takes care of the guest vocals. “My cries fall on deafened ears. We are, we are, the lost and alone.”

Title track ‘Dead Ends’ sets the score, and shoots this record to our year list. There’s much expected of the guys in Heights and Dead Ends is their stepping stone to a bright future. Support young hardcore talent and purchase their record here.
