Onward To Olympas – The War Within Us

Seriously, what’s up with Facedown Records releasing amazing records all the time? Last month Gideon blew us away with their Facedown debut Costs, this month it’s Onward To OlympasThe War Within Us that made our floors shiver.

I wasn’t familiar with Onward To Olympas yet, but if you mix the screams of Texas In July, some southern riffs of Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster, heavenly clean vocals and a good dose of creativism you get pretty close. The War Within us is definitely a record for the more metal listeners among us, but I think the hardcore fans will be pleased too.

Onward To Olympas warms you up with a drum fill that flows into a gunfire of guitar riffs and introduce you to the title song. Kramer Lowe’s powerful screams alternate with Andy Simmons’ uplifting vocals and together they highlight the instrumental madness. ‘The War Within Us’ will leave you begging for more.

Jamie King (For Today, Between the Buried and Me) played his part by engineering the album. He also worked on OTO’s previous album This World Is Not My Home, and did an amazing job at it once again.

More southern riffs kick in at the fourth track ‘Hidden Eyes’. The guys in Onward To Olympas create an energetic whole by mixing it with straight hardcore and even some death metal.

‘Seeker’ stands out because of it’s very catchy refrain with beautiful clean vocals. The song starts on slow, but brings along a whole lot of energy. Also, it reaches the finish with a technical guitar solo.

All together Onward To Olympas produced a very strong album that promises plenty of action on the dancefloor. They offer some cool bundles in their online store, so make sure to order The War Within Us. You won’t regret it!
