Portland, Oregon’s It Prevails have announced the release of their upcoming full-length album Stroma on July 19th via Mediaskare Records (The Ghost Inside, Bury Your Dead). The band has previously released two full-lengths (for Rise Records and Rain City Records) as well as two EP’s to critical acclaim. Stroma boasts the band’s strongest line-up and writing yet, with hard charging but melodic positively minded hardcore. Speaking on the band’s motivation vocalist (and songwriter) Ian Fikes says “I was always inspired by melodic and positive hardcore. Bands like Shai Hulud, Strongarm and Taken mean a lot to me. With It Prevails I always strive for kindness, altruism and open-mindness in our music. This is music we write because it’s what we want to hear, it’s what motivates us.”
A track from the forthcoming album was previously leaked on YouTube titled ‘Cage With Gold Bars’ and prepares the listener for what is in store. Another new song called ‘Artisan’ is now on the band’s Facebook page and features guest vocals from Adam Jackson of Twelve Tribes.
The term Stroma which is used often in construction and during medical operations refers to the basic structure or housing of something. Fike elaborates “We started referring to these new songs as the framework of our new ideas, the foundation of what this band is now about.” That foundation is about pushing yourself and striving to be a better person against adversity, which is referenced throughout the album.
