Only a few hours before the FIFA World Cup 2010 finals we had the privilege to talk to Texas In July. The boys, hailing from Lancester, Pennsylvania, are currently touring Europe for the very first time and have just been signed to Equal Vision Records. Their amazing performance that afternoon was the perfect preview for a good night of football among friends.
First of all: congratulations on signing to Equal Vision Records.
Thanks man! Ofcourse we’ve known it for some time now, but we’re really excited that it got announced just now!
Did you guys had a plan to get to the point where you are now?
No man.. It just kind of happened. We started playing basement shows in our hometown and now we’re here, touring Europe! We don’t see ourselves as a big band at all. It’s been a long building process and we took quite some sacrifices to live the lives that we’re living now. Logan dropped out of highschool, we lost friends and girlfriends, had to quite our jobs and spend a lot of money on the band.
What’s the story behind Texas In July?
Well before Texas In July we called ourselves Empty Viewing. At one point we were just like, let’s change our band name. We used generators and stuff but that didn’t really work out. Then one time we got sidetracked and started talking about vacations. Adam told us he had been to Texas in July and Logan instantly loved it.
What are your biggest influences?
We don’t look to other bands actually. We just play the music we like to hear in our heads. All of us actually listen to a lot of different genres. From Hip Hop to Country.
So any special plans for the future now your signed to Equal Vision Records?
Well once we get back to America we’ll meet up with our label first to discuss the whole plan for our new album. Besides that we’ll be touring full time and writing our new record. It’ll have the same sound, but better and heavier. We wanna get more technical and eliminate all weaknesses of the last album.
Can you recommend any upcoming bands from the US to our readers?
Yeah there are a couple! We just toured with An Early Ending. They’re awesome and good friends of ours. And With Life In Mind and This Or The Apocalyse are great bands too!
Any last words?
Uhm yeah we’d like to thanks Peter from Peter Says Denim for providing us with all their amazing clothing!
Oke guys that was it! Thank you so much for your time! Have fun with the rest of the European tour and good luck writing the new album!
