Hailing from the French capital, The Worst Doubt are set to make a hefty mark on the underground hardcore scene. Blending thick grooves and blistering vocal lines, they’ve teamed up with the guys at Straight and Alert Records to deliver their first five track EP, Demo ’15. Recorded and mixed by themselves, The Worst Doubt are doing it DIY, and if this demo is anything to go by, they’re doing it pretty damn well.
‘The Spread’ clatters in with a chain of nasty riffs and guttural vocal lines, setting a venomous tone to this raw sounding EP. ‘Legit Distain’ maintains a dark, malicious air, piling on the groove and distortion in a style similar to Downpresser and King Nine. ‘Awakening’ and ‘Mindfuck’ continue to show this band of Parisian hardcore kids’ flair for sludgy grooves and searing aggression. The record rounds off with ‘Digress’, my personal highlight of this five-track monster. Boasting the demo’s best song writing, it spotlights The Worst Doubt’s potential for creating top draw death metal, hardcore crossover.
Demo ’15 isn’t breaking boundaries, but for a debut demo it hits the spot. Blending influences ranging from death metal to classic NYHC, The Worst Doubt manage to capture a forlorn, insecure yet powerful vibe. I get the feeling The Worst Doubt have a lot more to say and give, and if this EP is anything to go by, we can bet this won’t be the last we here from these French metal heads. But for now, do yourself a favour, give Demo ’15 and a spin and head bang till your neck hurts.
